Six months on, Nicky's headlight still looks new. Rick refuses
to see. Fuck it.

He'd do the same tomorrow, if he were bored and restive,
fed up with all the things he can't or won't put a name to.
If he'd had a bad day, and Clarky wouldn't shut up.

If the man behind the wheel was beautiful and articulate,
and held his own against the big white copper blocking
out the light. If he looked at Rick with forbearance,
and something intolerably like compassion.

The last straw, that, the way Nicky had looked up at him;
gazed gently, with tired eyes that said I know you, friend. Do you?
